Regional Voices

Prioritising the Global Majority voices of the South West.

Regional Voices offers two key elements. A space for regional voices of the Global majority to come together and strengthen their community of people wanting to connect and celebrate their heritage. Beyond Face offers a space for storytelling, skill development and community to connect and experience the arts without needing to feel that you have to be an ‘artist’ or have experience to do so.

The second element is about wellbeing and care, across all areas of our work we centre care and wellbeing at the heart of what we do. This of course is ongoing and we are constantly learning more ways in which we can embed this practice. We will be launching an empowerment and confidence programme to support regional voices in the arts who may have been impacted by bad practice, feel that the arts isnt for them or struggle to keep motivated to stay engaging in their arts practice.

We will be working with a range of practitioners to offer sessions and development around what it means to be and thrive as a global majority artist in the region.

Thank you to the Paul Hamlyn Foundation for funding our Regional Voices programme over three years. Keep an eye on this page for more updates as we launch the full programme of offers soon.

story-tell

Each of us has a story to tell, we are here to work alongside you to explore how you want to tell it.

Beyond Face Story-tell workshops are a chance for adults to explore and develop their skills in:

  • Confidence in speaking out loud publicly

  • Explore new ways of telling a story

  • Creative writing- i.e playwriting, poetry & more

  • Working with others to creatively explore an idea

  • Play, reimagining what this can be like as an adult

The sessions are not about becoming an actor, they are a chance to be creative and to think about your own creative ideas supported by professional artists. These workshops have been requested by previous participants on our programme and have been designed for both group and individual development.

Benefits of the sessions:

  • Skill development in presentations

FAQs

  • No, these sessions aren’t about becoming an actor. Some sessions will use exercises and techniques that we might use with actors but you do not need to have experience. It certainly isn’t an audition and you won't be judged!

  • No, there may be moments of things that you create that you want to share with the group, but this will always be optional. Beyond Face have regular evenings called scratch nights which are chance to perform and try out ideas, you might get to a point where you want to perform, but the sessions are not about this.

  • The workshops are designed for you to be able to attend one or all of them. These workshops were asked for by previous participants, and they shared with us that they would like these one of workshops so that it was more flexible with their diaries.
