Artist Development
Our Artists programme is called We are Here. Its aim is to provide the tools and space for global majority artists to grow personally and professionally and to develop a sense of creative community across the South-West region. Take a look at our offers, testimonials and Artist Quality Indicators below.
We are here to write
We are Here to Write is our writing group for Global Majority South West based artists. Meeting fortnightly online, the group is a space for coming together, writing and developing as writers and artists.
We are here to share
These are events which showcase fresh new work developed by some of the most exciting global majority artists from across the region. Popping up at different venues throughout the south west.
We are here to UNLOCK
We are Here to Unlock are 1-1 sessions with a member of the Beyond Face team with the aim of unlocking practical, actionable ways to move your theatre project forward.
meet our associate artists
Beyond Face Associate Artist programme is designed to support global majority theatre-makers and creatives with long term ambitions in creating a piece of work for stage to elevate a project from an idea or an early stage work in progress to a full-length and rigorously tested performance project.
The Beyond Face Associate Artists, We are Here to Share Programme is supported by Theatre Royal Plymouth , MAST Mayflower Studios , Bristol Old Vic and Landmark Theatres.
‘Because of the sessions, I have felt able to write creatively, something as a journalist I never thought I would do, even though I have always wanted to release my creativity. I have acted in a scratch night and submitted my work to a production house - huge steps for me. I have also felt comforted by the sessions when writers have stressed we didn't need to confine ourselves to traditional methods of writing - whether western or patriarchal. This is rather liberating!’
‘[It’s been] amazing because I felt a bit tentative being new but everyone was so welcoming. It feels like I've been given permission [to start] writing in a different format. The session with Alix [Harris] about writing with “no rules” was really freeing. Hearing your words read out loud was quite a stunning experience.’
‘It doesn’t feel hierarchical, which I really like. The most supportive and gelled I’ve felt in a writing group. It doesn’t make me feel like an imposter.’
